Lenapehoking Lodge IX was formed in 1999 from the merger of Oratam #286, Meechgalane #178, Aquaninoncke#359 and Mantowagan #14 when Hudson Liberty, Bergen, Passaic Valley, and Essex Councils merged to form Northern New Jersey Council based in Oakland New Jersey. Although only four lodges make up the merged lodge, it’s foundation goes all the way bavk to 1921 with Pamrapaugh #14, the ninth lodge organized that met at the Grand Lodge Organization meeting on October 7, 1921. However a clerical error showed the #9 given to Cowaw, and Pamrapaugh was given #14. As well as in 1916, Jersey City Council was the first council that was chartered by the Unbited States Congress has roots in this council. Also, founder Carroll Edson formed Achtu #37 when he became scout executive in Hudson Council and was given the Vigil Honor from Achtu Lodge. In total, 17 different lodges from throughout the years make up Lenapehoking IX.
There are nine council camps in the perspective area of Lenapehoking. Including Floodwood Scout Mountain Reservation, a High Adventure Camp based in the Adirondack Mountains and Camp No-Be-Bo-Sco, a 70+ year olf camp. Lenapehoking, which means “land of the Lenape”, was used since our lodge serves areas where the Lenni Lenape Indians were located. This lodge has the pleasure of host NE-2B’s 2007 Conclave at Camp No-Be-Bo-Sco. |
